Carbon capture and storage (CCS) often gets a bad press with labels such as “unproven” and “failure”! But Australia already has two major CCS projects underway, a world leading CCS International Test Centre, and overseas there are more than 60 CCS projects underway with more planned and billions of dollars being invested in the technology.
The reality is that CCS is an essential component of the technology mix that has to be deployed at scale if the World is to avoid catastrophic warming. The good news is that Australia has the right geology for CCS deployment not only for cutting its own CO2 emissions, but also potentially assisting other countries in the Asia-Pacific region meet theirs.
