The Australian Fundamental Gravity Network (AFGN) is a series of benchmarks across Australia that gravity measurements can be levelled to. This provides a consistent datum to allow for the compilation of gravity grids from a national scale to selected areas, enabling us to map subsurface structures for mineral and energy exploration, groundwater characterisation, and other uses. This talk will discuss how the AFGN accomplishes this task from its creation to now, and how we aim to set up the network to meet future needs.
