Saltmaking in the Philippines is an ancient craft—but for decades, it was at risk of disappearing. In this episode, we travel to Antique, where coastal communities continue to produce salt using both traditional and modern methods. From sand filtration systems to sun-dried salt beds, the process reflects generations of knowledge passed down through families.
We also explore the impact of Republic Act No. 11985, a new law aimed at revitalizing the Philippine salt industry. At the center of this story is Tatay Pepito Sapipi and Virgie Imbang, longtime saltmakers and community leaders in Patnongon. Through their work and the efforts of local associations, we see how saltmaking continues to evolve—balancing tradition with adaptation.
