One of Pokemon's oldest oddities comes in the form of Gates. These inexplicable buildings dot the worlds of Gens 1-6, being places in between major locations- often forcing players to set foot inside their walls when going from a route to a major city. Whether it's in FireRed and LeafGreen or Diamond and Pearl, these buildings don't do much for the experience either way. It's just a few extra steps where nothing of particular note occurs so it's not a huge deal. But that itself begs a question. Why? Why do they exist? What even is the purpose of these transitional buildings?
But even further beyond those questions- Gates are important places with special stories to tell- and in a certain light WORTHY of consideration for some of the MOST important places these games hold in their entirety.
