The Hodder is at the Centre of the Kingdom, and it has been a participant in many of our Nation's dramas, from the Fall of Rheged, through the Creation of Amounderness, and later Lancashire, to the Pilgrimage of Grace, the Lancashire Witches, the Civil War, Tolkien's Lord of the RIngs, the English Clearances, and as backdrop, 300 million years since the gritstone Fells were formed. It remains a very quiet beauty spot to this day.
