It’s one of London’s most famous landmarks, a marvel of Victorian engineering and it’s appeared in everything from Sherlock Holmes, to the Spice Girls’ movie to Peppa Pig. In this documentary from History Calling I’m going to share with you the history of Tower Bridge and even better than that, you’re going to come inside Tower Bridge with me and see what it’s like to walk on the incredible glass floor, suspended above the traffic and water below and get some unusual views of the Tower of London (which is right next door) and HMS Belfast.
I’ll tell you who designed Tower Bridge, when Tower Bridge was built, how and when Tower Bridge opens and the incredible story about the London bus that jumped over Tower Bridge in 1952 to avoid falling into the River Thames when it began to open up while the vehicle was still crossing. You’ll also see old photos of Tower Bridge whilst it was under construction, learn how Tower Bridge was damaged during World War 2 and hear about some of the crazy stunts people have pulled on or around it since it was built.
