What do you buy that you never used to and how much does it cost you? In this economics history video from History Calling we look at 10 things we waste money on that our ancestors didn’t and at how we can spend less and lead cheaper lives by taking a little inspiration from history and thinking about things people never used to buy.
This video will look at how much modern life costs us by considering topics such the rise of fast fashion and modern technology, how much money the modern wellness industry makes, what we spend on beauty products and how our spending habits differ from previous generations when it comes to food and leisure spending. I’ll look at the types of things we take for granted today that people living hundreds of years ago would rarely if ever have considered spending money on (assuming such products and services had even been invented) and at how they managed without modern conveniences like electricity, mass production and disposable belongings.
