Traditional Owners are taking a leading role in weaving their traditional practices with contemporary management practices in efforts to restore healthy water, healthy ecosystems and healthy Country in the Great Barrier Reef.
Land and Sea rangers, with the guidance of Elders, are bringing cultural knowledge to their work to restore healthy waterways and wetlands. Traditional Owners are partnering with neighbours and management agencies to share responsibility for restoring healthy water flows by addressing the degradation and toxicities entering the ecosystem. Activities being undertaken include water monitoring, combatting invasive species, restoring ecosystems and protecting cultural values. Working together has made a difference.
The GBRF Healthy Water program has shown that an investment in Traditional Owners caring for Country is an investment in healthy water and a healthy Reef.
Be part of the wave of change. Be accountable.
