Hare Hill House and its estate was owned by the Newall family, a wealthy family in the textile industry who helped shape the town of Littleborough.

Sadly, Mephisto had a very short life and is said to have fallen from a window at Hare Hill House to his death.
In the grounds are a statue and a headstone to commemorate the life of Mephisto.
