Krampusnacht (Krampus Night) falls on the 5th December and, in countries like Austria and Bavaria, any children who have been naughty that year might need to prepare for a visitor. Whilst St Nicolas goes around giving out gifts, Krampus punishes or even kidnaps children who are on the 'naughty list' . A staple of European folklore for Centuries, Krampus is now more internationally recognised and celebrated.
In Whitby, the home of gothic culture thanks to its links to Dracula, each December the town celebrates with a Krampus Run where people don costumes and participate in the celebration.
