This video features a BR Maroon example of Hornby ‘s stunning model of the Duchess / Princess Coronation class. Watch to the end to see some high speed running shots edited to include real archive sound of the class sprinting along the West Coast Mainline in the late 1950's.
Pride of the Neville Grove home fleet, 46256 has been transformed with polished effects and weathering, to give a well used, but looked after "oily rag" finish:
Even very subtle weathering serves to add greater realism - no matter how well looked after, there will always be areas that are very seldom cleaned on a steam locomotive.
The "Neville Grove polished effect" adds depth and lustre to the crisply applied factory finish, and gives the appearance of a greasy, painted metal surface with dirt pushed into the creases and crevices by an oily rag. The process transforms it from a detailed plastic model to a scaled down miniature of the real thing.
All audio on this video was originally released on vinyl by Argo Transacord, and was recorded by Peter Handford in the late 1950's. They are now available digitally remastered and on CD via Old Thundridge Records.
