Well, I did it. A showcase of almost every project I did in class from each class during my 1st year studying ART/ANIMATION! (Now after seeing my work you understand what I meant about "surviving").
*Please Note: This is not a professional reel or anything! It is just a record of what I did because I am a sentimental fool and its what I do. Most of this stuff probably shouldn't see the light of day....it sucks. To confess, I am trying to get over my fear of showing my work to the public. (Honestly posting online is easier than the years’ worth of public critiques I went through. At least I don't have to see or listen to you laugh at me here.)
I'm only proud of maybe 4-6 things. 3D is more my strong suit and I am specifically majoring in Effects Animation. The way the SVAD program is setup though, the first 1-2 years is heavily 2D/Art focused. (Next year I'll get into much more 3D work; I'm so relieved!)
I am curious as to if any of the fellow animation students who I've heard from that follow me recognize some of this stuff and the Anim principles!! But if ANYONE has questions, please feel free to ask! :)
Now to break this down:
● 2D Art/Design:
This class was the 1st of what I call my "weird" classes. We did a lot of strange assignments in class, but the core of it was to learn "craftsmanship" and draw/think non-representational. You can tell what my state of mind was by the Metaphor project at this point.)
● Intro to 3D - This class was the introductory class into the 3D software: Maya! The main program used in the industry. (It makes Vegas look like Mother-Goose in learning.) Ahh, I loved this class! It was my only none drawing class that semester. My escape! None of it is in order. Everything I modeled/textured. (Except the Build Kit, that was given assets.) Oh and ya might have to pause the vid for the still life stuff...I was going with the music ya know.
● Principles of Animation 1: This class was by far the make you or break you course. And for someone who struggles at drawing - ITS DEATH!! (P6 with Dopey, crushed my soul!! OMG, I wish I could tell that story if the description would allow.) Needless to say, I did many, many, many, MANY resubmits in this class. Our year was the first to go completely digital so all animation was drawn on Wacom Cintiqs in TV Paint Pro 11 which is a digital drawing software. (Thank Thor too cause I could not have done this on standard paper flipping like old school. *bows*)
This class does open your eyes and allows you 1st hand to appreciate the 2D anim movies and wonder how they ever came to be. Seriously. To make one good drawing is one thing: But to do it over and over, and OVER yet staying consistent in volume/character is mad skills! (Reminder: 24fps = 24 drawings a second. My hand hurt)
Now these ARE in order. The "P1", "P2" stands for the Project # not principle. The Principles are in italics. There are officially 12 Principles in Animation but at my school, our Disney professor added a couple, so we had 14 Principles to learn.
● Drawing 1:
Just a basic College drawing course. Nothing special. I took it before at my previous college but they still made me do it again here. I know why....
● Principles of Animation 2: A continuation of what we learned last semester, only building on our skills. We [the class] spent the last month of the semester working together to make a 2D short film. We succeed! Our professor also squeezed in some 3D work, which made me happy, so we did 3D versions of several of our 2D projects.
● 3D Art/Design:
Now this was Pt2 of my weird classes, instead of drawing, we had to physically build it. I hated this class. It gave me so much anxiety; I never knew what to expect walking into it each week. There were 5 projects total but I only showed 2 here because: The other was my practicum final with the Moana vid, the others I can’t remember, lol!
● Drawing in Motion:
This class was the most helpful drawing class I've taken. It wasn't easy (Though It may look it). The idea is to capture life/movement in the gesture, using energy, rhythm, and FORCE. (Yes, Star Wars puns were heavily used.) Surprisingly we had to memorize a lot of anatomy because my teacher believes knowing what/where the muscles are helps you draw them. He is right, I am not at that level of ability to do so pleasingly. For the final we had to make a humanoid character + skeleton + muscular system for them.
● The final class is my Effects Animation class!! This was a small Senior course but I am technically a Junior so I could take it early. I am so grateful to cause it was my favorite class so far! It was broken down into: Cloth, Rigid Bodies, Destruction, Particles, Hair, and Fluids. None of this shown was in any order btw. I can see myself doing this for a living though...particularly elemental or cloth effects.
Anywho, thats the story of my life during the past year. *falls face down in the mud*

![RIO-HTTYD ~ Id Come For You (Collab with iVishu!)
I dont believe it....its FINALLY here!! After 4 LONG months our collab is all together iVishu! Can you believe it? Its been such an honor to do this collab with you! Your such a talented editor and supportive friend, Thank you!
Footage: Rio, How to Train Your Dragon, Gift of The Night Fury, Riders of Berk [ep: 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9]
Music: Id Come For You by Nickleback
iVishus Channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/iVishu (If you havent already you must check out his channel and see his WONDERFUL tributes to HTTYD! ;)
Okay, so back in August, I did my 2nd collab with another very talented editor thefanvideoer2 on two movies (KFP & HTTYD) with Weve Both Changed(Oh and I think its exactly 4 months ago since that was August 15...coincidence?). Now iVishu has a deep appreciation and keen eye for depth and order in vids (and gifted in expressing them in his own work) and was greatly moved (as he told me) by the coordinationin combining two emotional movies like that. So we started one of those mini commenting conversations as I call them about it. Im normally too shy to ask to do a collab with anyone, but for some unexplained reason I leaped at the chance to make an offer for a collab with my new friend. Need I have to tell you his response....
A collab with you? ID BE SO HONERED!! *bows head out of respect* It will be fun to have lots of ideas/projects lined up to avoid editors block (as long as we have the time that is). Though right now I honestly cant think of a good song/score for a collab. Ill pm you if I find any, and please pm me too if you have anything in mind. Dont let that thought go away!! :) Excited already! :D
As it turns out, we did NOT let that thought go away and began PM-ing ideas back n forth right away....He was the one who came up with the idea of Rio &HTTYD vid and organized the whole project. (Plus creating that gorgeous intro and finale with quotes! :) And here it all is, all together 4 months later. The delay I must say was due mainly to me with life throwing some curve balls on me those first 2-3 months. So this is one very patient guy ;) This was also the BIG project I completely lost in my hardrive crash and the most painful one to let go of. I was working on it the night before and well over half way completed on it then the next morning it was ALL gone in a flash. It took me some time to recover from that blow and start editing it over again but iVishu was understanding and going through some trials on his own. So, weve BOTH been through a lot those past 4 months. Hopefully if we get to do another collab together again it wont be drawn out for months, Ha! Oh and we both just love this song!! Ive said before that I can only take so much rock style of music but Nickleback is definitely an exception. (Well, theres been A LOT of exceptions in music since HTTYD) but I always liked them ;)
Thanks again for hanging in with me and doing this collab, iVishu!! RIO-HTTYD ~ Id Come For You (Collab with iVishu!)](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/kzYFtKycg8Q/mqdefault.jpg)

![HTTYD2|| The Hobbit 3~ Mock Trailer
*ANGST WARNING!* Its only fair... Here, take the whole box of tissues! ;(
Now if this had been How To Train Your Dragon 3 I think this would have been just about perfect. Other than that, its gotta be about the most agonizing amv Ive yet to upload. I should be uploading something happy to celebrate the Digital Release of Dragons 2 but this is all I have ready....and it pretty much made itself to be honest. I had to edit with THE two scenes I wasnt quite ready to see frame by frame, first. I dont know how it happened; whats the matter with me? College isnt THAT depressing...
That melancholy music playing in the background really sets the tone though. Please dont badger me when its all over because it made your heart ache inside over the losses. I did it to myself too, only weeks ago. I made this in under a week a month ago and been waiting, patently, for it be released here in the US so I can public it for you guys. The day has finally arrived; there were times I never thought it get here back in June after I saw it 3 times!! (6 in all. 3 of them in IMAX btw ;)
Now till Nov 11th so we can see some of the bonus features, the making, deleted scenes, and of course, Dawn of the Dragon Races! =)

![Last of the Real Ones [Reylo]
Okay....so I manged to pull an old project outta the shadows and make one final upload before school starts. HA!
Ive had A LOT of inspiration for Star Wars lately. This was the 1st one I started once The Last Jedi came out in HD and Ive been dragging my feet on the last 10 secs I suppose. Eh, it always looks better in my head than on YT but oh well.
I FREAKIN CANNOT WAIT FOR EPISODE IX THIS YEAR!!!! OMG, next to HTTYD3, & Frozen 2, THIS movie has me most hyped. I guess its my most anticipated live action film you could say. Dont get me wrong, I am SUPER PUMPED for Marvel with End Game but.....IDK, Star Wars has more of my heart right now. Maybe it was how Infinity War ended. It was good but didnt it leave ya with a kinda numb, dead feeling inside when you walked out of the theater?? I know The Last Jedi is the most criticized, hated Star Wars film by most, but for me, it is my FAVORITE! And when I walked outta that theater after first watching it, Im still reeling from it all to this day. xD
Also this is my 2nd vid after upgrading to Vegas Pro 16. I would say yay but, eh ever since MAGIX bought out Vegas from Sony I feel its gotten much more unstable. Editing vids now is such an ordeal; it seems to crash all the time now! Hopefully itll get patched up. On the plus side, I have a ton load of new effects I dont know what to do with. I used several here....maybe thats why it crashes every 5 mins. Ugh.
Notice anything rather different in this vid compared to my others though???
Give up???
I kept the letterbox (black bars), or made it non-fullscreen. That is a first since my very very very 1st HTTYD vid. Why you ask? Well, Ive been into the cinematic editing style and trying to mimic it. Black bars isnt necessary but it seems cooler. The key technique that makes it cinematic IMHO, are Action Cuts/Transitions. So thats what I was practicing here...at least 1:03 to the end. Thats the only part Id say to qualify as being more cinematic, but its still a mess. Cinematic has become my favorite style of editing I would like to master xD
