The Gen V Problem

Now that Gen V season 2 has concluded, today I will be following up on the last video and speaking on a topic that is related to The Boys. While usually I don’t speak on narrative or review seasons per say, today I need to kinda do this in order to present the scaling, as surprisingly the scaling is very important to what our Main Character Marie goes through and what she ultimately is supposed to represent. I don’t think the Gen V show is bad at all, it could be cringe at times but I believe there is genuine effort in this show to show you hey, this world in the grand scheme of things has so many layers beyond what you’d expect. From the underground lab rat experiments on Sam, the brother of the prodigy Golden Boy, to even the recent reveal of the very founder of the school coming back and trying to start from scratch, it kinda feels like this show should be a lot bigger than what it feels like. However both finales kinda just set up for the next season of The Boys, rather than concluding character arcs, and even by Season 2 we see half of the characters not even doing anything, when they had much bigger roles in previous seasons like Kate and especially Sam. Marie as well falls very flat on her face when the narrative tries to push this idea of her being stronger than even Homelander, but the show just doesn’t really convince you that well. I know it seems like I’m kinda just yapping for nothing, but it really does matter when we get into certain characters and what they end up showing off. Marie definitely is a force to be reckoned with, but by the end of season 2 it just feels like her power progression isn't earned all that well. She doesn't really overcome Goldokin like you'd expect her to, rather gets a guilty win thanks to Polarity, and again it's just to set everyone up for S5 of the boys. It's just a little frustrating when you're making me care for these individuals, only for me to have to wait for another season of a show for their arcs to fully wrap up. I'm sure it'll come full circle, but if I'm being honest none of the characters get a satisfying ending. Sam and Emma go nowhere, Cate does nothing even after having some of the best scenes in the show with Marie, and Marie, our protagonist, is just kinda alright, until she gets a cliche win on the main villain. However, this is really only just because of how her powers work and theoretically if she were to get to a certain level of strength, she could pull this off. Although I believe there's really no one currently aside from Billy Soldier Boy and Homelander himself that can do anything to her, I don't think she's just top 1 because of statements regarding her potential with her powers. At the end of the day it's what you do with that potential, and for the most part she was getting ragdolled and worrying about her sister so… lets hope she doesn't swoop in and one shot Homelander because that would be ABSOLUTELY terrible.
