Hydrogen fuel cells are taking over rail transportation! Stadler America has opened its doors for the annual Stadler North America Open House 2024. We hear the latest about their advanced hydrogen and battery-powered systems from Stadler CEO Martin Ritter.

Stadler North America has developed several systems for powering their trains, which all work together. While using the standard catenary system of overhead wires, they also use batteries that can be charged at the destinations or en route from the catenary which can be intermittent. But the most interesting system is hydrogen fuel cells which can supply stand-alone power for over 1700 miles, or charge the batteries as needed.

The trains are manufactured in Salt Lake City Utah and used in several large cities around the US. Stadler is a Swiss company with several manufacturing plants in Europe
