Most classroom management problems aren't behavior problems—they're uncertainty problems.

One of the easiest ways I've found to increase student engagement is by putting time limits on almost everything we do.

When students know they only have 30 seconds to transition, 2 minutes to discuss, or 7 minutes to complete an activity, they stay focused because they know exactly what's expected. It also helps reduce anxiety for students who thrive on predictability, including many autistic learners.

You don't have to be rigid with your timers, either. If students need more time, quietly pause or extend it. The goal isn't to rush students—it's to create clarity.

This strategy is just one of dozens inside the **Classroom Buy-In Blueprint**, where I share practical ways to build engagement, ownership, and a classroom students actually want to be part of.
