Playing some Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver with a friend over the weekend and he brought my attention to this problem and I was so fascinated I had to get writing about it. It is so fascinating the way the older Pokemon games would keep certain Poke Balls more secret than others- especially with it being ultimately an aesthetic thing made for showing off in battle with the little animations they all have. On one hand, it does make having the Johto only balls more special, and other cases like this feel mystifying and unique- but there's also that frustration with not being able to fully customize how you would like without jumping through some hoops that might cost you a lot of time. It is undeniably cool that these games have "depths" like this and a part of getting what you want is going and completing your little chores though. Even cooler than Mudkip! This one's for all the Relicanth, Cresselia, and Tentacool fans out there.
