The Cyclops submarine is actually hiding inside the Subnautica 2 Experimental Build, and yes, you can spawn it into the game, climb inside, and even technically DRIVE it!

But before everyone starts celebrating the return of the original Subnautica's legendary mobile base...
There's a catch.
This appears to be an unfinished developer reference / easter egg asset, NOT confirmation that the Cyclops is actually returning as a finished vehicle in Subnautica 2.
The Cyclops currently hidden inside Experimental is extremely barebones.
There is basically nothing inside besides:
β The exterior Cyclops model
β A functional entrance
β Working ladders
β A mostly empty interior
β A functional helm
β Extremely basic movement
And when I say you can drive it...
I mean technically.
It moves.
Very.
Very.
Slowly.
There's even a developer message associated with the submarine making it clear that the Cyclops is not intended to be spawned into normal gameplay.
So why is it here?
One popular theory is that the developers may be using the original Cyclops as a size, layout, or design reference while developing Subnautica 2's new giant submarine: the Trident.
The Trident is still an extremely early work-in-progress vehicle, but we can already spawn its prototype.
So naturally, I spawned BOTH submarines at the same time.
In this video we'll put the:
Original Cyclops
next to the:
Subnautica 2 Trident prototype
and compare their size, shape, scale, and overall footprint.
This gives us a really interesting look at how Subnautica 2's future large submarine compares with the vehicle that basically defined late-game exploration in the original Subnautica.
In this Subnautica 2 Experimental showcase we'll look at:
β The hidden Cyclops submarine
β How the Cyclops currently looks in Subnautica 2
β The developer warning attached to it
β The barebones Cyclops interior
β Functional entrance and ladders
β Driving the hidden Cyclops
β Just how hilariously slow it currently is
β Why the Cyclops may exist as a development reference
β The unfinished Trident submarine
β Cyclops vs Trident size comparison
β What the Trident might eventually become
β How to explore hidden Experimental content yourself
If you want to explore this kind of hidden content yourself, check out my tutorial for the Developer Area Enabler mod.
That mod allows you to reveal the normally hidden developer layer in the Subnautica 2 Experimental Build, including unreleased Scorpius Trenches structures, developer notes, future progression locations, and other work-in-progress content.
β οΈ Remember that everything shown here is unfinished development content.
The Cyclops being present in the files does NOT mean it has been confirmed as a returning playable vehicle. Assets can be used as references, prototypes, placeholders, development tools, or simple easter eggs and may never appear in the finished game.
