Irelandscapes | The Barley Field, Saintfield, County Down - (N Irish Countryside Scenery) @Irelandscapes | Uploaded May 2022 | Updated October 2024, 6 hours ago.
I stopped as soon as I saw this field yesterday on the way to get an old lawnmower fixed just outside Saintfield Village, County Down. The colour, the clean lines of the plant, the wind's impression on a million lofty blades. Red barns and oaks. This area is the very definition of rolling countryside with it's Drumlin hills and patchwork hedgerows, diving Swallows and curious cattle. Land and building in sympathy with each other. In some scenes here you can see the silhouette of the Mourne Mountains to the South. Since childhood I have always stared at those mountains, seemingly far away, like a mystery kingdom waiting to be discovered. Of course now, we have the scenic Mourne Way which allows visitors to approach these majestic peaks through towns and villages, by coast, and through that rolling countryside.
