I've been thinking about making this video for a long time. I use my 300mm f/2.8 all the time to shoot sports as well as many other assignments and more and more, my 70-200mm f/2.8 sits in a cabinet in my office. Primes typically beat out zooms in both lens speed and AF performance. Most people starting to shoot sports seriously always buy the 70-200mm f/2.8 first but I think there is a case to be made to buy it first instead. This video explains why. I'm a former Sports Illustrated photographer and have been shooting sports as a pro since 1985.
