After beating my head against the original top for longer than anyone with an ounce of sense would try, I found, through a luthier's forum, the man who supplies the ultimate "tone woods" for top luthiers and guitar manufacturers. With his assistance, through a long email discussion and a few phone calls, I came up with the perfect wood for making the 12 string new again. It's a "bookmatched set" of Artist+ Grade Adirondack Spruce. Martin and Taylor use it on their top end handmade custom builds.
This is the progress to date. I'm actually gaining on it.
