Square Enix has acknowledged the black screen loading bug affecting Final Fantasy XIV on Nintendo Switch 2, and confirmed a fix is already in testing. This video breaks down what they said.
A quick update on the FFXIV Switch 2 loading bug and the incoming fix.
The issue affects instanced duties on the Switch 2 version, where loading times can take longer than usual when the screen fades to black. According to Square Enix, this happens when a player enters an instanced duty while surrounded by many characters, with the delay lasting until the player leaves the instance. It is especially noticeable when the screen fades to black during a battle phase transition or map teleport within a duty, when reviving after being KO'd, and when using Return or a shortcut inside an instanced duty.
Square Enix explained that in certain cases the data reloading and cache clearing processes required for safe rendering are taking an extended amount of time. Those processes have now been optimised for faster data loading under those conditions, and the updated version is currently in testing. They have confirmed they are working to release an update as soon as possible to address this alongside several other issues.
It is genuinely reassuring to see Square Enix respond this quickly and transparently to a launch issue, and a good sign for the long term health of the Switch 2 version. Let me know in the comments if you have run into this bug yourself. Subscribe for more FFXIV Switch 2 coverage.
