Here we go again…. My son and I went into Chicago last weekend to pickup some Otari reel to reel decks from a recording studio. While that will be a separate adventure and posting at some point, the focus is on this Technics receiver that was sitting on a shelf and was thrown into the deal with the other purchase.
I’ve always wanted one from this series because of the little graduated volume light on the right. After bringing it home and plugging it in I was thrilled to hear the protection circuit come on which means I knew it was going to work. That’s the Technics testing formula that has never disappointed me.
Anyways, this is an early hybrid analog and digital tuner receiver, however, the analog is just a meter that is an approximation to the digital frequency. It’s actually a quartz lock tuner.
65 W per channel and it has discrete transistors. I re-biased it and adjusted a few things and it’s working great. Had to spray a ton of deoxit into the push buttons with the face plate off. Was not particularly dirty.
The insides of this are very similar to the SA-550. Also perhaps the SA-510.
Goodbye January 2025!
