It’s the beginning of a great weekend and I have my first of two stereo systems to audition setup. It’s my Technics by Panasonic SA-800, 125WPC, from 1978. Bought this a while back and used it upon cleanup and cleanout. It’s time to be heated up and put into a workout. And it certainly performs!! Pumping Pioneer HPM-100’s.
A well designed and engineered unit in my opinion. Has auto-sensing 4/8 ohm speaker circuit which switches on the fly.
Many many switches and levers. Want extra treble or bass? It has a 1) loudness switch circuit, 2) triple tone bass midrange and treble knobs, and finally 3) additional bass and treble boost circuit switches.
So you can really modify your audio as you want it to sound.
This unit only has a few hours on it. All original bulbs (filaments pristine upon inspection) and the amp biasing was almost dead on, which I almost never see.
The SA-800 has slightly different architecture and design when compared to the SA-700 and SA-1000.
These are more rare and I’m not sure why, but this line is an excellent example of beautiful 70s monster receiver engineering.
