In a very special albeit shorter music video, I'd like to share with you all the music of Tchia! An indie game built around New Caledonia influence, I saw Tchia during a big indie game trailer montage and fell in love with all its mechanics! For fans of Wind Wakers sailing, Breath of the Wild's open exploration, even Prop Hunt, and more importantly fans of fresh real-world culture imbued into an accessible game.. this one is for you. To top it off, it was composed by my friend and The Game Brass veteran John Robert Matz! His works have always had charm and more symphonic roots, but to hear his compositions in Tchia was inspired! You hear guitars from other friends of mine throughout, gorgeous Drehu language vocals, ukulele of course, and many more indigenous instrumentations through the game and I couldn't recommend the score and game more.
For my cover, I was singing the melody to the theme so much I had to start with the title itself! With acoustic guitar and ukulele, I felt like I could draw from light acoustic/gospel rock styles and go for a more 1:1 recreation of the theme rather try to drastically alter its original meanings. The hardest part by far was learning to pronounce the language, as it's not documented the same way as other commonly sung languages, but it gave me a lot to learn from! I hope you all enjoy this cover, I certainly encourage you all to check out the game and JR's work, and take some time to enjoy exploring wherever it is you go.
