DISCLAIMER: This TAS is incredibly unoptimized due to it being old, and back in 2016, my TASing skills were not exactly the best.
Wow, this was an annoying level to TAS. I just finished TASing it a day or two ago, when I realized you could save time near the beginning. I reTASed the part near the beginning to save time and finished TASing it. That was until I realized you could save time AGAIN at the same part. So, once again, I reTASed the level from the same part. Here are the stats:
Rerecords: 1062
Emulator: DeSmuME 0.9.9
Controller: Nintendo 64 Controller

I got the idea to TAS this Star as Mario after seeing Migu do it as Yoshi (https://youtu.be/yJccdXzqVF0). The strat is pretty much the same, except for the fact that I sideflipped out of bounds (OoB), and that Mario can cling to the door at the bottom of the slide in order to avoid taking fall damage before opening the door, which is a few frames faster than falling straight into the door. At 0:18, I tried to dive and roll out on the corner while staying OoB to see if it was faster than jumping down, but I couldnt manage to do it. It may be possible to improve this Star by running on the OoB seam inside the chimney instead of jumping down, but I couldnt manage to do that either.

![[Former PB] Super Mario 64 DS 8 Star Speedrun in 17:51
This run is no longer my PB. Click here for a faster run: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1AEmTVy0Us
This was played on Version US 1.1 of SM64DS on my Nintendo 3DS. The final time for this run was 17:51 because I started the run from a 0 Star file instead of a new file. This skips the 2 minute intro cutscene at the start of the game, but in order to have runs that start from 0 star files line up with other runs on the leaderboard, an additional 1:56 is added on to whatever time you got.
I still cant believe I managed to PB by a decent amount of time from my previous PB (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xqL5wS9_RQ), considering that I long jumped and bonked in HMC, missed a Bowser throw in the Fire Sea, failed the upstairs Rabbit Clip five times, bonked and fell down really far in the Sky, and missed a Bowser throw in the final Bowser fight. If I can manage to get a run without these mistakes then maybe I can get Sub 17.
Theres no game audio because my brother was asleep while doing this run and also my house is really tiny.

Frames: 1790
Time: 00:29.92
Rerecords: 113
Emulator: DeSmuME 0.9.9

Timing starts as soon as the game turns on and ends on the first frame the game crashes.
What I did in the video is actually very easy. Just go to the Multiplayer section on the title screen, go to the Single-Card Game option and quit out of it. The game should crash shortly after quitting out. I dont know for sure why it happens, but my guess is that emulators simply cannot support Wireless Play like how a physical DS can, so it crashes.
