Here are some techniques I used to elevate this basic green skirt to the next, luxe level:
🧵 Fabric choice - A heavy linen gives this skirt structure AND drape at the same time.
🧵 Sew in interfacing - I use this on the waistband for a more natural feel and look.
🧵 Invisible hand-sewn waistband - Gives a really neat, no visible stitching finish and hand stitches give a softer feel over ditch stitching.
🧵 I added some rouleaux hanger tabs so I don't have to 'pinch' the fabric with hangers.
🧵 The hand-pricked invisible lapped zip hides the zip for couture-level finish.
🧵 Bound seams - Because overclocking is ok, but no visible threads for seam finishes are better!
🧵 Large hem facing - This adds weight for more swish and gives more structure to the hemline which makes it hold its shape for the look I wanted. (Invisible hand finished of course!)
Even a simple a-line skirt can be sewn into something really high-end and luxurious! I always want my garments to look as good on the inside as they do on the outside, otherwise, it just doesn't feel as special to wear and for me I'd rather spend just a little more time on it, to make it something really special I want to wear and will love forever!
