SYDNEY THOMPSON
The orchestral and ballroom dance music that was recorded by British bandleader Sydney Thompson largely owed its success to the fine arrangements written by composer-arranger Ray Downes.
Together with Harry Davidson and His Orchestra and Downes' own Dancetime Orchestra, the three dance bands belonged to the most popular British dance orchestras of the 1960s and 70s.

The song "Baia" (Bahia) was written by the man who composed that other world famous hit "Brazil", Mr Ary Barroso.
The Original title reads "Na Baixa do Sapateiro". In 1944, Walt Disney used the song in his cartoon "The 3 Caballeros".

Just like it's the case with Ravel's Bolero, there is something "hypnotic" about this well known song, written by "Brazil" composer Ary Barroso. It's - in a way - hard to stop listening to the song once you've started :)
There are quite many versions of this Brazilian song (cfr also this channel) and this one sounds quite romantic and danceable (which comes as no surprise of course knowing that Sydney Thompson only recorded ballroom dance music).
Personally, I like the slow, almost restrained rhythm that is so typical for this composition. Hope you'll enjoy too ....
