MFF : Suzanne Vega is considered the “mother” of the mp3 format. The creators of the mp3 used her voice from the song Tom’s Diner for analyzing the different sound spectrums when creating the compression algorithm.
SIGGY MAI
Siegfried "Siggy" Mai is a German orchestrator, arranger and composer who originally worked in the former DDR.
He started to play (and study) the piano when he was a young boy. He got a contract with the Dresdner Rundfunk in 1946, as composer/arranger. . He wrote and arranged the music for several famous movies, eg films starring Johannes Heesters. He started his own band in 1957 calling it "The Berolina Sound Orchestra" (indirect reference to the city of Berlin) . Mai recorded numerous albums for the DDR label "Amiga" but switched to the "Monopole" label during the nineties. He specialized in filmmusic written by composers of the first half of the 20th century and released several albums on the Monopole label accordingly.

The tune "Song Of India" is an adaptation of the classical opera piece written by Russian composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov for his opera "Sadko". The 1930s version of Tommy Dorsey and His Orchestra was a major chart success in those days.
Meanwhile, numerous instrumental cover versions have been recorded by an array of orchestras and bands.

A fabulous and very Original version of the Dorsey "classic" (in more than one way ;-) here with Siggy Mai in control of the arrangement and .... that can be heard right away.
Mai is a talented arranger capable of writing all kinds of arrangements, be it for classical, modern or popular pieces.
Some of his own compositions are quite tasteful as well (as we may hear in future posts....)
Mai makes full use of the available instrumentation here with elements of brass, strings, chorus, harp, flute and others, and thus gives this "classic" a modern touch while preserving some of the Original elements of the composition. A "must hear" :) ! Enjoy.
