Supplements Everyone Needs? These Are the 3 I Recommend
Most supplements aren't necessary if you're eating a nutrient-dense diet.
But there are three supplements I regularly recommend because modern life has made deficiencies much more common:
✔️ Vitamin D
✔️ Vitamin B12
✔️ Iodine
In this video, I explain why.
☀️ Vitamin D
Most people simply don't get enough sunlight to make adequate vitamin D anymore. We spend more time indoors, use sunscreen appropriately, and cover our skin—all of which reduce vitamin D production. Low vitamin D levels are associated with numerous health concerns, making it an important nutrient to monitor and, for most people, supplement.
🦠 Vitamin B12
Vitamin B12 isn't made by plants or animals—it's produced by bacteria. Historically, humans were exposed to more B12-producing bacteria from the environment. Today, with modern sanitation and food safety practices, both people eating plant-based diets and meat eaters who consume cleaned, commercially produced foods can become deficient without supplementation.
🧂 Iodine
I used to rarely recommend iodine because most people regularly used iodized table salt. But as many people have switched to sea salt or greatly reduced their salt intake, I've seen iodine deficiency become much more common. In some cases, correcting that deficiency with appropriate iodine supplementation has helped resolve hypothyroidism related to inadequate iodine intake.
The goal isn't to take dozens of supplements.
The goal is to identify the few nutrients that modern living makes difficult to obtain and make sure your body has what it needs to thrive.
