Spring break in Tokyo. Two Tesla Superchargers, two trains, three rounds of beer, and one Model Y owner sitting in a charging stall without charging (shame on you, friend).
On the way to Shibuya Crossing I dropped into two Tesla Supercharger stops worth seeing if you're an EV nerd traveling through Tokyo:
▸ Takanawa Gateway — the new underground V3 site tucked under the Takanawa Gateway City complex. Modern, clean, and easy to miss (it's in the basement parking, not at street level). The signage says 8 stalls; what I could actually find tells a slightly different story. Saw two Model Ys and a Model S in residence — though only one of them was actually charging. The other two were just... parked. Shame on you, Model Y owners.
▸ Daikanyama — a small upscale spot next to award-winning Tsutaya Books, a boutique Starbucks, and an Ivy Place restaurant. The neighborhood is gorgeous and the car spotting is unreal — Japan has a sliding-door minivan game that I respect immensely. Saw a brand-new Model 3 parked there. Smaller location than Takanawa but worth the trip if you're already in the area.
The journey out to Daikanyama took an hour, two trains, and a bus that Google Maps disguised as a train icon (I almost missed it). But the trains are a joy. The signage is bilingual since the Olympics. It just works.
After all that, I stumbled into Spring Valley Brewery just outside Shibuya. Three rounds in — the Jazzberry was great, the dark beer after dark was great, and the third one I let them pick because I told them I don't do IPAs. Pizza, squid, and a fading memory of how I got back to the hotel.
If you're planning a Tokyo trip and you drive an EV, both of these are worth a stop. If you're a Model Y owner who parks at a Supercharger without charging — y'all already know.
