SUPER BOWL 34 ONE YARD SHORT ENDING 😳
The final play of Super Bowl XXXIV (Super Bowl 34) on January 30, 2000, is widely considered the most dramatic ending in NFL history, simply known as "The Tackle" or "One Yard Short."
Titans quarterback Steve McNair lined up in the shotgun and snapped the ball. He threw a slant pass to wide receiver Kevin Dyson at the 5-yard line. Dyson caught the ball and turned toward the end zone, appearing to have a clear path to score a game-tying touchdown.
Rams linebacker Mike Jones, who had originally been covering a different player, noticed Dyson catching the ball. Jones quickly reacted, broke his original assignment, and lunged forward to wrap around Dyson's hips at the 2-yard line.
As Jones took him down, Dyson desperately stretched out his arm, holding the football toward the goal line. However, Jones's grasp rolled Dyson onto his back, stopping his forward momentum exactly one yard short of the end zone as the clock expired.
Because Dyson was brought down short of the goal line and time ran out, the St. Louis Rams won Super Bowl XXXIV. Rams quarterback Kurt Warner was named the game's MVP, cementing the legacy of the legendary "Greatest Show on Turf" offense.
