With roughly three minutes left in the game and the Patriots holding a dominant 45–10 lead, New England ran a surprise "quick-kick" punt on a 3rd-and-10 play, executed directly by quarterback Tom Brady. Frustrated by the impending blowout, Von Miller delivers a late hit from behind into Patriots center Dan Connolly, who was not looking. Patriots offensive lineman Matt Light immediately retaliated by shoving Miller. The confrontation quickly escalated into a bench-clearing melee that spilled onto the New England sideline, involving nearly the entire Patriots offensive line.
