"Sunglasses at Night", by Canadian singer Corey Hart from his debut album in 1983 First Offense, was released as a single in 1984 and became a hit single in the United States rising to #7 on the Billboard Hot 100. With a catchy synthesizer hook, characteristic arpeggio, rock guitar, and cryptic lyrics, the song was one of the most memorable hits of the 1980's. Hart stated that the inspiration for the word "sunglasses" is because he had a pair that he carried around with him while in England. It became a focal point that worked its way into the song. However, the co-producer at the studio where the First Offense album was being worked on states that the studio's air conditioning/heating vents were directly above the mixing console. Air from the vents blew directly into the faces of the control room personnel so they often wore sunglasses to protect their eyes. Over Corey Harts 35 years in the music industry, he was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1984, an inductee of both Canada's Music Hall of Fame and Canada's Walk of Fame. He has also been honored by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), and the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada.
