"Pretty Little Angel Eyes", by American singer and Curtis Lee, was released in 1961 peaking at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Backing harmonies were performed by the doo-wop group The Halos (not credited on the label). Lee, an up-and-coming teen idol at the time, had to come up with a title for the song while on tour and was inspired by a girl he met in Florida with beautiful eyes. The up-beat tempo of the song was inspired by that week's number one song "Blue Moon" by the Marcels. Also, the intro lyrics were inspired by an old Cleftones song "Little Girl of Mine". At first listen, Lee's record label publisher wasn't impressed with the song, but was later convinced to give it the green light. What resulted was an infectious master take of a tune recorded at the moldy, rat-inhabited Mira Sound Studio in NYC that record producer Phil Spector later found to be an optimal acoustically dynamic record-making environment.
