I purchased a sump baffle for the Fiesta ST from Pumaspeed.
For those who may have heard about them before but aren't sure what it is or what it does, this basic quick video explains.
Sump baffles can come in different forms, this one bolts to the bottom of the engine and hangs down into the sump, others may fit directly into the sump depending on what engine and brand etc.
The basic idea of a sump baffle to try to ensure there is always oil at the pick up so the engine is not starved of oil. Oil starvation can commonly lead to a lot of damage to your engine such as bearing wear. By always having oil at the pick up, the pump will always have a nice flow to distribute around the engine.
Do you need a sump baffle on a daily? Probably not. Do you track your car? It might be a good idea to have one. Any track with long braking zones from high speed to low, or any track with long sweeping bends are where oil starvation may likely occur. Turn 1 at Sydney Motorsport Park for example, 190km'h, brake and by mid corner you are still doing 150-160km/h and then back on the go pedal. Turn 2 is a hairpin that requires you to wipe off 100km/h+.
This maintenance free, one time mod can save thousands in future when replacing and engine.
