Sublime. A recurring segment in the soundtrack of my high school years that echoes into my own musicality and songwriting to this day. Being an avid reggae fan and growing alternative rock fan, Sublime bridged the gap between the two beautifully, interweaving a certain rootsy, mystical element that makes their music so special. Drumming as true as a heartbeat, bass-lines spicier than a late night curry, some of the most underrated guitar-work in modern music and that voice. A cross-cultural, night on the town, average Joe, smooth as pop, hard as rock, jazz on acid, erratically tribal voice, sweetly powerful enough to make you forget just how great those songs were (or just how random those lyrics could be). Here's a simple little favourite of mine. And here's to Sublime!
