I've done the string pull before, which is usually done on a black background either from black paint or the ebonizing lacquer. However this time the back on this project is done with the wood dyes I've recently been using in my previous videos. The idea is to give the background a very dark colour that isn't noticeable from a distance. Doing this actually produced another effect I wasn't expecting.
