Muscle pre-activation is a huge, often overlooked component of performance.
๐๐ฝโโ๏ธ Pre-activation is how our muscles prepare our body to contact the ground during jumping, sprinting, etc.
This is primarily trained with short ground contact time movements that involve the stretch shortening cycle. (ex: Drop jumps, assisted jumps, bounds, hops, etc.)
๐ While power cleans, box jumps, broad jumps, etc. are all great exercises for improving force production to jump farther, they don't teach the body how to pre-activate to anticipate ground reaction forces.
It's important to include adequate volumes of bounding, hopping, sprinting, and other exercises with short ground contact times that have high specificity to improving pre activation if you want to see full carryover to athletic performance.
