Create a layered gel plate collage step by step using one single pull. This intuitive process is built in reverse, layering paint, stencils, and paper before pulling the final print.
Each decision is made in response to the previous layer — adding Kozo paper, selecting gel prints for collage elements, and building texture and contrast across the plate. I use Liquitex spray paint with the tree stencil to introduce shape and depth, always considering how each layer will translate in the final image.
Because gel plate printing works in reverse, the composition has to be built backwards. Every mark, stencil, and paper layer is placed with the final pull in mind. Once everything is in place, I pull the entire collage in one go onto wet strength tissue paper.
