This bird is much more beautiful than my camera can capture. To see good photos of this sort of Jay, just search "Steller's Jay" images. I have named him "Bird". What I find of keen interest is that "Bird" will come out of the forest to my porch when I call him.
He and I have learned some routines by which we can relate and acknowledge each other as sentient beings. We have a little ritual to go through every day, which I'll try to describe shortly. He signals me and I signal him, and we both go through a predictable sequence of behaviors which is, for a forest bird and a crazy old coot, quite elaborate and outside the normal way birds and humans relate to each other.
Sorta hate that the snow made so much glare and distorted his coloring as my camera picked him up. But still, I want to get this guy on the record at my channel here.
