Elias Alias | Metamorphosis: Woodpecker Becomes Pecanpecker @EliasAlias | Uploaded February 2019 | Updated October 2024, 2 hours ago.
It's sorta like seeing a miracle of transformation and transcendence right before my very earthly eyes.
In reviewing this, I am guessing that I may have made a mistake in gender. This woodpecker may be the "wife", in which case I owe her an apology. My statement to her, about pecking on my log cabin to wake me up too early, should have been addressed to "her" and she would have laid the blame off onto her "husband".
Why I'm curious about the gender is that at one point in the video she turns her head in such a way that allows me to notice that there is not a red spot on the back of her head. The woodpecker I filmed yesterday had a fine red spot, so I'm guessing that the red spot is a "male ego" indicator put there by Mother Nature so we old hermits can know which is which. Personally, I'm grateful if I can even know what is what, and never mind which is which.
Sheesh. Maybe I should look for a real day job, yes? ;)
