For a couple of days back in October 2001 and 2003, the normally diesel operated quarry trains were worked by three industrial steam locomotives. Members of the public could apply for a limited number of tickets to enter the quarry during working hours and witness the event. The quarry closed in 2008 and has been used as a landfill site for soil from the Crossrail project. Ultimately a 200+ housing estate will be built on the reclaimed land.
