Static mixers are often used in pipelines to mix fluids without using any moving components or external power. In this FLOW-3D HYDRO video, three different styles of static mixers are modeled for the same hydraulic conditions in a large diameter pipe. Each model introduces a scalar dye through a small pipe just downstream of the mixer and the goal is to have this injected fluid become well-mixed in the pipeline. You can use the outputs from the FLOW-3D HYDRO model to assess how well the static mixer meets the mixing criteria of the particular application.
