The failure of an above-ground liquid storage tank can result in property damage, environmental impacts, or put the nearby population at risk. Inspired by the 1919 molasses tank failure in Boston (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Molasses_Flood), this FLOW-3D HYDRO simulation uses a non-Newtonian fluid in an instantaneous dam failure simulation. Using 3D CFD simulation, you can gain insights into the effectiveness of the surrounding containment bund, the time it takes for fluid to reach buildings, and the flow depths and velocities that can be used in a hazard assessment.
