This starter motor noise is quite common across lots of cars. When starting there is a lingering gear grinding noise for a second after the engine starts. Easy enough to fix by removing, stripping down, cleaning and lubricating the starter motor.
This work was on a Freelander1 1.8 year 2003, but is applicable not just to freelanders but to a lot of cars. With time and over say, 120,000 miles or 20 years the starters can get a bit dried up and lacking in lub slowing down the movement of the bendix gear in and out. It just all needs freeing up.
