Episode: "Datalore"
Arguably my favourite story of Season 1. The Enterprise enters the Omicron Theta system for a quick visit to a former Earth colony, also the planet on which Lieutenant Commander Data was discovered. Commander Riker leads an away team down to the long abandoned and largely dead world, picking up on the location where Data was discovered some 26 years prior, the away team locate the hidden advanced cybernetics laboratory, a facility run by Data's creator, Doctor Noonian Soong. The away team find their way into Doctor Soong's lab where the make another startling discovery; another Data-like android disassembled in storage. Naturally we're all eager to see what happens when this android reassembled but unfortunately a can of worms is opened and this android, Lore despite looking, sounding and smelling like Data is actually unstable, ambitious and dangerous. - Data's evil twin!
Data and Lore share a discussion on Lore's experiences living amongst the colonists on Omicron Theta, including those with Doctor Soong. The point is driven home that despite their physical similarities there are some undeniable behavioural differences between Data and Lore. Lore also shares a little about his long-term ambitions
