Whilst running at high warp to aid an Earth colony in distress, the Enterprise is halted by a visit from Q. Boasting an irreverence for Captain Picard's motivation to complete his rescue mission, Q insists that mission take second place to a mission of his own; to explore how Commander Riker will behave once he has been given the power of the Q.
Q's aggression towards Picard and company throughout the pilot episode has done little to nurture any positive relations between them. Picard reels off the specifics to make sure that we the audience know where he stands.
