Stan Getz and Luiz Bonfá’s Jazz Samba Encore! has always lived somewhat in the shadow of Jazz Samba and Getz/Gilberto, but spending time with this new Acoustic Sounds Verve Jazz Series reissue revealed something deeper.

This is not just a revisit—it’s a rediscovery.

In this video, I take a closer look at the album’s place within that early bossa nova trilogy, Bonfá’s essential role as both composer and guitarist, and the unique atmosphere that sets this session apart. Most importantly, I compare this new pressing—mastered by Matthew Lutthans at The Mastering Lab—to a Japanese Polydor pressing (UMV 2100), focusing on tonal balance, space, and overall presentation.

What emerges is a version of this record that feels more relaxed, more immersive, and ultimately more engaging.
