In this SRAM PowerLink Review, I show you how to remove a bike chain link and replace it with the PowerLink bicycle chain link.
I used the Park Tool CT-5 Mini Bicycle Chain Breaker to remove a chain link from our bike chain. I've linked to that above.
It's been a few weeks since we replaced a chain link on the bike with the SRAM PowerLink, and it's working perfectly.
In the video, I also explain which part of the chain to remove, because you could remove the wrong piece and then you'd have to remove 2 more links in order to fix the problem. If you follow the instructions in this video, you won't have to worry about that.
Besides having a broken chain link, another reason you might want to know how to install a SRAM PowerLink is if you need to replace your chain derailleur but keep your bike chain. You'll need to break your chain to detach your old derailleur from the chain.
Although the SRAM PowerLink is removable, it's recommended that you only use it once. In other words, if you take the chain apart after you've put it together with a PowerLink, you should replace the old Powerlink with a new one.
The bottom line is, I'm happy with the SRAM PowerLink, and I recommend using one for anyone that needs to replace a bike chain link.
