Flenniken is best known as a contributor and editor at National Lampoon Magazine. After attending commercial art school in Seattle, she migrated to the colorful world of underground comic books and newspapers that was burgeoning in 1970s San Francisco. Her work was discovered by editors from National Lampoon Magazine, and she was recruited to add her down-home view of suburban angst to the pages of that magazine, and her irreverent strip about precocious teenagers is now collected in Trots and Bonnie, published by the New York Review of Comics.
Her work has appeared in a variety of books, magazines, and films including American Bystander, Mad, Graphic Classics, Comics Confidential, and Drunk Stoned Brilliant Dead: The Writers and Artists Who Made the National Lampoon Insanely Great.
Joining Flenniken in conversation is Dr. Rachel Miller who earned her Ph.D. from The Ohio State University. She is a Managing Editor for The Comics Journal and has written extensively on comics. Her book An Introduction to American Comics (Routledge) is forthcoming.
